A visit to Exmoor National Park is a must when staying in North Devon. The 267 square mile national park is easily accessed from Country Ways. Exmoor offers a variety of scenic trails and routes for walking, hiking and cycling, as well as the chance to spot some of the local wildlife such as the famous red deer or Exmoor ponies.
If you looking to get out on your bike but don’t like hills, then why not head to the Tarka Trail. This is North Devon’s 180-mile walking and cycling route that follows the former railway line. Beginning in Braunston and ending in Meeth. The trail is a great way to see the Taw and Torridge estuaries and is largely traffic free.
For golf enthusiasts, Libbaton Golf Course is just up the road from Country Ways. Or why not try The Royal North Devon Golf Club in Westward Ho? Having been founded in 1864, it is thought to be the oldest course in England. The club offers a challenging and picturesque 18-hole golf course. As well as a clubhouse with a bar and restaurant. Nearby family friendly attractions include RHS Garden Rosemooor (15 minutes away from Country Ways) which is beautiful throughout the seasons and often has special events. The National Trust’s Arlington Court on the edge of Exmoor, The Big Sheep near Westward Ho, Watermouth Castle near Ilfracombe and Exmoor Zoo.

Of course a trip to North Devon would not be complete without visiting one of its beautiful beaches. Whether you sunbathe on the golden sands of an award-winning beach or go rock pooling at one of the smaller, hidden away coves. There really are no better places to make memories. The large beaches such as Westward Ho!, Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton are popular for water sports and have lifeguards on patrol in the main seasonal months. North Devon’s smaller & hidden beaches also provide plenty of fun for all the family no matter what the season.
